Sometimes there are medical issues or conditions which may prevent the therapist from being able to treat you.  While you will be given a medical questionnaire to complete at your initial appointment, please be aware that there are certain conditions which may make it inadvisable to treat you without the consent of your GP.  In these instances, you will be asked to see your GP for a letter of consent so that the therapist can treat your soft tissue issues.

These conditions include (but are not limited to):

  • Multiple Sclerosis (acute periods)
  • Parkinson's Diseases
  • Shingles
  • Stroke
  • Thrombosis or Embolism
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Hypertension
  • Heart conditions (such as heart murmurs, angina pectoris, or heart disease)
  • Severe Diabetes
  • Haemophilia
  • Systemic Oedema
  • Lymphangitis
  • Cancer
  • Some Post-operative situations
  • Substance abuse

Other contraindications may include (but are not limited to):

  • Contagious conditions (cold, flu, etc.)
  • Certain skin conditions (acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, boils, fungal infections, etc.)
  • Injuries (burns, open wounds or sores, scar tissue, bruises, broken bones, severe sprains or strains, inflammation, etc.)
  • HIV / AIDS
  • Pregnancy
  • Hypotension
  • Weakened skin, bones or muscles
